Looking for inspiration? Something new but still manageable if you already play guitar? Well, the oud has been around for 4,000 years and remains hugely popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Its influence is occasionally felt in contemporary acoustic guitar playing. Famously it was one of the many inspirations brought to contemporary fingerstyle by the late Davy Graham. Now, oud specialist Philip Shaheen has teamed-up with Canada’s Riversong Guitars to offer two contemporary takes on the instrument. Based on the Riversong Stage Guitar, the oud uses the patented Riversong guitar neck system and comes with a proprietary pick up system with a specially built transducer. It also feature a new patented bridge system and has patents pending on many other design features. watch Philip Shaheen demonstrate the Riversong oud here.
